| April 1, 2003 | The Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program (graduate school for two specialties) and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science were established. |
|---|---|
| 2005 - 2006 | The Graduate Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program facilitated the "International Education Programs in Biomedical Science", which was selected as a project under the Initiatives for Attractive Education in Graduate Schools. This program provided graduate education in English, the international language in science, and established a system within our graduate school that enables non-Japanese speaking students to receive the highest-level of graduate education and obtain a Ph.D. |
| Fiscal year 2005 - 2009 | The Graduate Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program led university-wide efforts to implement the "Life Sciences Intellectual Property Evaluation Infrastructure Development Program" with support from Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology that were allocated for the cultivation of human resources in new fields. These efforts helped train people who can evaluate intellectual property in translational research and strategically create future market needs with highly specialized knowledge of the patent and legal systems. |
| Fiscal year 2006 | The Chemical Biology Screening Center was established. The Graduate Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program introduced lectures and laboratories on chemical biology into its curriculum as formal subjects. This change was implemented earlier than many other schools in order to address the anticipated need for scientists with this expertise in pharmaceutical and other life-science industries. |
| Fiscal year 2006 | The Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science concluded an inter-university agreement with Peking University (China). |
| Fiscal year 2007 - 2011 | The Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program conducted a project that creates the basis for the promotion of chemical biology. This project was selected to receive Special Funds for Research and Education. In addition to establishing a foundation for research and education in chemical biology at our university, our Ph.D. program generated a compound information database, which will further enhance the chemical biology data resources that are unique to Japan and will lead to drug discovery. |
| October, 2007 | The Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program established the International Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program (graduate school) and obtained permission from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to reserve two seats for government-sponsored foreign students. In addition, the Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program established the TMD-RIKEN International School jointly with RIKEN in order to create a system in which foreign students can obtain a Ph.D. from our graduate school while being financially supported by RIKEN. |
| Fiscal year 2007 | The Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program and the Graduate School of Biomedical Science concluded an inter-university agreement with China Medical University (China). |
| Fiscal year 2008 - 2010 | In collaboration with Ochanomizu University, the Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program is implementing a project entitled, "International Collaboration for Education in Disease Life Sciences that Integrates Different Fields", which was selected for the Program to Accelerate the Internationalization of University Education (comprehensive strategy-type). In an effort to expand the Cooperative Graduate School Program across national borders, our Ph.D. program is developing dual degree educational programs jointly with other higher education institutions in Europe, the United States and Asia. This program will allow graduate students to study at Ph.D. programs at leading universities overseas while being enrolled at our university. |
| Fiscal year 2008 - 2010 | The Graduate School of Biomedical Science and the Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program are playing a major role in a university-wide project to create the "Innovative Support Model for Female Researchers", which was selected to receive Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology that were allocated to establish a support model for female researchers. Through this project, an environment is being developed in which female life science researchers, physicians, dentists and other professionals can fully exercise their abilities at various stages of their careers, receive due recognition, obtain support to balance their work and life events, such as childbirth, child raising and nursing care, and build a rich career and life. |
| Fiscal year 2008 | The Graduate School of Biomedical Science and the Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program concluded inter-university agreements with Heidelberg University (Germany), University of Freiburg (Germany), University of Glasgow (United Kingdom), the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France), Beijing Union Medical College (China), Fudan University (China) and Hanoi Medical University (Vietnam). |
| Fiscal year 2009 | The School of Biomedical Science and the Biomedical Science Ph.D. Program concluded inter-university agreements with the University of Dundee (United Kingdom) and Shanghai Center for Bioinformatics Technology (China). |
